A Historic First: PlantCon Takes Root for the First Time in Chicago
How a generation of young visionaries cultivated PlantCon against all odds.
CHICAGO (March 18, 2026) — This year, the Windy City blows a global phenomenon into town. For the first time in its history, PlantCon, the largest plant hobbyist convention in the nation, is coming to Chicago. From June 20-21, 2026, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center will be transformed into a lush jungle, marking a milestone moment for a community built on the belief that even in the harshest of climates, life finds a way to thrive.

The arrival of PlantCon Chicago 2026 is more than just an expansion to the Midwest. It is a testament to resilience and perseverance, like a seed that pushes through weathered concrete to find the sun. While the journey to bring this vision to the shores of Lake Michigan was paved with quiet challenges and unseen hurdles, the result is a celebration of the enduring spirit of the plant community.
At the helm of PlantCon is the youngest team to pursue and accomplish nationwide plant conventions. They have redefined what it means to lead in the horticultural space and challenged the notion of what a plant convention should look like. Navigating an industry steeped in tradition, the Gen-Z-led team has faced unique challenges, fighting to prove that community-led passion is a more powerful currency than the status quo. As a generation that came of age during times of global uncertainty, they poured their personal experiences of traversing an ever-changing world into the heart of PlantCon. They continue to show that their age is not a liability—it is their superpower.
“PlantCon has created outstanding waves within the plant industry by putting the community first,” says Gladys Segura, Executive Director at PlantCon. “It’s truly a unique experience that can’t compare to anything else.”

It is an open invitation to witness the strength of a community that refuses to stay dormant.
